GRAVAL ROAD FAQ

GRAVAL Road is an adventure you will share with other riders, but it is not a race. Although you will always know where the other riders are, there is no official ranking. It is an adventure in which you must complete the route at your own pace within the time limit.

14/09/2026 20:00 Registration opens.

01/04/2027 23:59 Registration closes.

30/04/2027 05:00 Official start.

02/05/2027 21:00 FINISH TIME LIMIT.

The start is in the city of Valencia. The ROUTE BOOK you will receive by email a few weeks before the event contains all the information about the start location.

GRAVAL Road is designed for road bikes, but MTB and gravel bikes are also welcome. Choose comfortable gearing for long climbs and gradients over 15-20%.

Yes. The maximum time to be considered a finisher is 65 hours. You must complete the route before 21:00 on 02/05/2027.

There are no signs along the route. You navigate by following the track on your GPS. You will receive the official track by email a few weeks before the event.

The organisation provides sports accident insurance, but you can add your own insurance.

Yes, and you must follow it faithfully. If at any time you need to leave it to find food, water, a place to sleep or fix your bike, you must rejoin it at the same point where you left it.

It is a safety tool that lets the organisation locate riders during the route. We will share a link so anyone who wants to follow the event can do so on an interactive map. A refundable 50 € cash deposit is required on the day you receive it.

Yes. In the spirit of ultracycling and bikepacking, you must ride unsupported for the whole route. Any kind of outside assistance from friends or family is forbidden. Support vehicles and pre-arranged private resupply beyond the resources available to all riders are not allowed. Your gear, food and repairs must be managed by you alone, respecting the essence of unsupported riding.

Find a way to fix it on your own, with what you carry or at a bike shop. If you need a car, only someone you meet on the route who offers to help can drive you, never a friend or family member. The organisation will not provide any support. Once it is fixed, you must return to the exact point where you left the route and continue from there.

You must sort it out on your own, as on a normal training ride. The organisation does not pick you up or transport you. Let the organisation know and get the tracker back to us at the event finish or, if that is not possible, by post to MadCap. The address is in point 2.11 of the rules. You will recover your deposit when it is returned.

Yes, you can ride in the SOLO or PAIRS category. When you register you must indicate your category. Pairs share a single tracker for the whole route and are responsible for managing it properly.

Registration includes the official route track, welcome pack, official race cap, route book, tracker and finisher gift.

At GRAVAL we value the support of friends and family, but during the event visiting riders is not allowed except at designated checkpoints (CPs) and always with authorisation. At the start and finish, anyone is welcome and no notice is needed.

To request authorisation, send an email to info@graval.cc stating the CP, the rider’s name and the details of the people attending.

You may only book in advance the night before the start. Booking accommodation in advance for the nights of the event is forbidden. Any other booking or service needed during the route must be arranged once the event has started, so that all riders are on equal terms.

RULES

This English version of the rules is a translation provided for information. In case of any doubt or discrepancy in interpretation, the Spanish version prevails.

1.1 GRAVAL Road is not a race. It can be considered an adventure, a challenge or an experience, but never a competition. You can take part solo or as a pair.

1.2 This event is based on the philosophy of unsupported ultracycling, where you must rely on your own means to complete the challenge. You must ride unsupported at all times.

1.3 Remember it is just you, your bike and your bikepacking gear. This means you must carry or obtain yourself the food, drink and equipment you need for the whole route. You alone are responsible for your logistics.

1.4 Outside assistance from friends and family (food, drink, accommodation, logistical support…) is not allowed. Help from people you meet along the route who voluntarily offer to assist you is allowed.

Accommodation. Booking accommodation in advance for the nights of the event is forbidden. Only the night before the start may be booked in advance. Any other booking must be made once the event has started, so that all riders are on equal terms. This rule is part of the ultracycling code of trust.

2.1 The event will have a route of approximately 600 km with 10,000 m of climbing. The organisation reserves the right to change the distance and elevation depending on weather and road conditions on the day.

2.2 Although you will find very few cars and pedestrians along the route, you must obey traffic rules at all times.

2.3 Reflective clothing and front and rear lights are mandatory in low visibility conditions.

2.4 Drafting other riders is allowed.

2.5 The organisation will send you the route track a few weeks before the event. You must follow it to the end. If at any time you need to leave the track to find food, water, a place to sleep or fix your bike, you must rejoin it where you left it.

2.6 You must follow the track with your bike computer, so make sure you have enough battery for the whole event.

2.7 The organisation will give you a GPS tracking device (tracker) the day before the start or on the day. This device shows your position on the route at all times. We will also send you a web link where you can see your progress and that of the other riders on a map.

2.8 The tracker has enough battery for the whole event. You do not need to charge it, but you must check regularly that it is working.

2.9 A refundable 50 € cash deposit is required on the day you receive the tracker.

2.10 If you scratch, you must inform the organisation and sort it out on your own, as on a normal training ride. The organisation does not pick you up or transport you.

2.11 If you scratch, you must get the tracker back to us at the event finish. If that is not possible, you must send it by post to MadCap. You will recover your deposit when it is returned.

3.1 The route is designed for road bikes, but you can also ride an MTB or gravel bike.

3.2 Electric bikes are not allowed.

3.3 We do not recommend any specific tyre width or gearing. However, bear in mind that the route is on roads, so choose gearing that helps you tackle around 10,000 m of climbing and the gradients of up to 20% on the route.

3.4 Make sure your bike is in good condition on the day of the event. Be prepared for any mechanical problem. Remember this is a unsupported event and you will not receive any support from the organisation. If you have a mechanical problem, find a way to fix it on your own, with what you carry or at a bike shop. If you need a car, only someone you meet on the route who offers to help can drive you, never a friend or family member. Once it is fixed, you must return to the exact point where you left the route and continue from there.

3.5 Mandatory kit.

  • Emergency blanket or bivy bag
  • Helmet
  • Front and rear lights
  • Reflective vest

4.1 The organisation sets a time limit of 65 hours to finish the challenge, that is, 02/05/2027 at 21:00. After that you will not receive any service from the organisation.

4.2 You can organise your rest as you see fit. You only need to keep the time limit in mind.

4.3 Checkpoints are placed strategically along the route, but not all of them are in towns. Study the route carefully to plan your stops and resupply. Some places have supermarkets, bars, pharmacies, accommodation and even bike repair, but not all of them.

5.1 Much of the route runs through protected areas such as natural parks, plant micro-reserves and SPAs. Leave no trace.

5.2 Follow the instructions of the organisation and volunteers. Their job is to make sure the event runs smoothly.

6.1 By registering and taking part in the event, you authorise the organisation to record all or part of your participation and consent to the use of your image and name to promote the event on any platform (internet, radio, press, video, television, posters, media, etc.).

6.1 You assign all rights to the commercial and promotional use of the event, with no right to any financial compensation.

7.1 The event is limited to 49 places.

7.2 Anyone over 18 who is prepared to complete the challenge can register.

7.3 Registration prices.

* They will be published on the day registration opens.

7.4 Registration dates.

  • Opens 14/09/2026 at 20:00
  • Closes 01/04/2027 at 23:59

7.5 If you cannot take part in the event, the refund policy is as follows.

  • Before 31/01/2027, 75% of the fee will be refunded.
  • From 31/01/2027 until 15/03/2027, 50% of the fee will be refunded.
  • After 15/03/2027, no refund will be given.
  • If the organisation is forced to cancel the event for reasons beyond its control (weather, war, natural disasters…), the event will be postponed to another date. In no case will the fee be refunded or carried over to future editions.

7.6 Registration is valid only for the edition in which it is made, not for future editions.

7.7 The organisation reserves the right to refuse entry to any rider who has been disqualified for unsporting conduct or for breaking the rules of ultracycling, at GRAVAL events or at events run by other organisers.

8.1 During the event you are covered by basic sports accident insurance. This insurance is included in the registration fee, but you can add your own insurance.
